hi all,

This is Jake Lee, director of Allround Snow School.

I would like to share a couple of points a good CASI level 3 instructor's riding should have.

Basically it's a combination of strong core competencies and good-enough advanced competencies, I would say.

- Centered and mobile positon

- Turning with the lower body

- Balance along the working edge

These 3 core competencies must present themselves at most of the moments, and overall riding.

Think about the opposite if you are not sure of what these mean.

How do you feel when you are on the tail of the board all the time?

if you are swaying your arms and shoulders too much?

what if your center of mass is too inside or too close to the snow?

In short, these fundamental pieces should come out always without thinking.

and then we have...

- strength and flow

- arc to arc

- loading and deflection

- steering versatility

these above are called advanced competencies, which consist of some high-end skills.

In CASI level 3 category, the rider should be able to show good absorption of them based on core competencies.

It doesn't have to be perfect, but at least good grasps.

These factors can make a snowboarder seem flowy and very efficient since he/she is making use of the board attributes and other circumstances a lot.

So we have to understand how a snowboard works in what surroundings, and things to change to better the outcome.

This initial phase of truly understanding snowboarding can be a breakthrough towards the higher level of it.

There are a couple of specific tasks like short turns, medium turns, bumps, carving and terrain park riding.

Once we get the hang of what is missing or needed in our riding altogether,

we can twist it and apply it to another aspect.

For example, shorts turn timing issue can be a good hint to improve terrain park riding.

or vice versa.

As some of you are already aware of,

I am a CASI level 3 instructor, and my fellow instructors are level 2s.

If you have no idea of how I ride like, please refer to the video above because I can guarantee I am at that level.

And please consider taking a lesson or two from us, we have so many thing to offer and still are very willing to give you more.
